LAS VEGAS - A southern Nevada nonprofit that helps homeless families is planning an overnight "cardboard city" camp-out to draw attention and raise money for people living on the streets in and around Las Vegas.

Family Promise is organizing the event from 6 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday at the Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas on Lindell Road near Edna Avenue.

Participants are asked to bring cardboard boxes and sleeping bags.

Plans call for sleeping outside in boxes and forming a soup line for food, with volunteers serving as security.
