Only days after moving into first place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference, Western Nevada College's baseball team dropped into second place after losing a doubleheader to the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.

The Wildcats lost the opener 2-1 behind a six-hit effort by CSI's Mike Renner and lost the nightcap 3-0 on a shutout by Tyler Vavra.

"One run in 16 innings isn't going to cut it," WNC coach D.J. Whittemore said. "We have to do a better job of executing offensively. The wind was blowing in about 30 mph from right field which made it a tough day for the hitters. We have to execute better.

"We weren't ready to play. As a coach, I got out-coached today."

In the opener, CSI scored twice in the fifth on two WNC errors. WNC's only run came in the seventh on a double by Spencer Ofelt, a single by Pat McMeel and a pinch-hit single by Sean Dwyer.

In the second game, the Wildcats got 6.1 innings from Jake Waardenburg, who gave up three runs, one unearned, in the third. Dyllon Nuernberg threw the final 2.2 innings.

Eric Maupin led WNC's offense with a 3-for-4 effort.
