Train Plunges into Carson River: An engine and nineteen dump cars wrecked. Road Master George F. Hayward killed and five persons injured. A stone falling on the track the cause. Yesterday afternoon at half past 1 o'clock an accident occurred on the V. & T. Railroad between the Vivian and Merrimac Mills (Carson River) which killed the road master and injured the engineer, fireman, conductor and two brakemen (continued Wednesday)

In an article about Territorial Enterprise and one of the first editors of the west, Joe Goodman, it is noted that Samuel Clemen's first use of the nom de plume, Mark Twain, is used in a story about the Nevada Legislature.

Many Carsonites are taking flying lessons form Ralph R. Boring weekends. Next week a date will be set for organizing a flying club. Mr. Boring said several of his students will solo very shortly.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City may save money on backfill material for the new sewer plant by using waste material from the old stone quarry at the state prison. Warden Jack Fogliani wants to build a rehabilitation center east of the warden's house, but is blocked by the waste material.

20 YEARS AGO

Carson City is in a tie with Fairbault, Minnesota as the 19th best little city to live in according to "The Rating Guide to Life in America's Small Cities."
