PAHRUMP, Nev. (AP) - Authorities say a Nye County sheriff's deputy has been shot and airlifted to a Las Vegas hospital in critical condition.
University Medical Center spokesman Rick Plummer said Monday that the officer in his mid-30s was having emergency surgery after being shot multiple times.
Nye County Sheriff Anthony DeMeo tells The Associated Press that he is at the hospital with the deputy's family. DeMeo is referring questions to a captain who is not immediately available for comment.
A sheriff's dispatcher in Pahrump describes the situation as an officer-involved shooting but is not providing more details. Pahrump is about 60 miles west of Las Vegas.
