The Carson City Fire Department is conducting an evacuation and sheltering exercise from noon to 4 p.m. May 2 for the residents of the Old Clear Creek Road subdivision in southwest Carson City.
The exercise is being carried out in conjunction with Nevada's Fifth Annual Wildfire Awareness Week, reminding residents that we live in a wildland fire environment and encouraging them to protect their home and community from embers that can attack during a wildfire.
The exercise is designed to test emergency communications and evacuation plans, and to provide the residents with an opportunity to practice evacuating themselves and their pets to a designated shelter.
Fire department personnel will access emergency water supplies that have been created in the Clear Creek area to test their ability to obtain water during an emergency. Members of the Carson City Fire Department's all-volunteer Community Emergency Response Team will establish and operate a shelter in the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall located on Old Clear Creek Road across from Costco.
