NEW YORK (AP) - David Wright drove in four runs, Ike Davis added three RBIs and streaking New York won its sixth straight game, beating Los Angeles 10-5 on Tuesday night for a doubleheader sweep.

In the opener, Jason Bay hit his first home run for the Mets to back another stingy outing by Johan Santana as New York rolled to a 4-0 victory.

Hisanori Takahashi (2-1), a 35-year-old rookie reliever, bailed out a Mets starter for the second time in five days. Wright hit a bases-loaded triple, Davis had a two-run double and New York set a season high for runs while improving to 8-1 on its 10-game homestand.

The Mets earned their first doubleheader sweep of the Dodgers since Aug. 28, 1971.

In the nightcap, New York opened a 3-0 lead against knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (0-3) in the first inning on an RBI single by Jose Reyes, a run-scoring triple by Bay and Davis' sacrifice fly.

Takahashi tossed 3 1-3 innings, allowing one run and striking out five for his latest big effort in long relief.

Wright, who began the day in a 7-for-42 slump (.167), punched an RBI single to right-center in the fifth for his 1,000th career hit, snapping a 3-all tie.

Davis followed with a two-run double, and Wright made it 10-3 in the sixth with his triple.

Santana (3-1) tossed six innings of four-hit ball in New York's second consecutive shutout. Luis Castillo hit a two-run single for the Mets.

Padres 4, Marlins 1

MIAMI (AP) - Jon Garland matched a career high with 10 strikeouts to lead San Diego.

Garland (2-2) allowed one run, three hits and three walks in six innings, tying the record for strikeouts he set Aug. 24, 2003, against Texas.

Adrian Gonzalez, Jerry Hairston and Nick Hundley had run-scoring hits for San Diego, and reliever Luke Gregerson struck out the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh to set a club record by retiring 26 in a row.

Gaby Sanchez snapped the streak with a single to right.

Mike Adams pitched a scoreless eighth and Heath Bell followed in the ninth for his fifth save in six chances, holding the Marlins to six hits a day after they scored 10 runs on 12 hits.

Anibal Sanchez (1-2) allowed three runs, two earned in 6 1-3 innings. He struck out seven.

Nationals 3, Cubs 1

CHICAGO (AP) - Livan Hernandez pitched six-hit ball into the eighth inning for Washington.

The Nationals' 11-10 record matches their best start since 2005.

Ian Desmond delivered two RBI singles - one in a two-run first and one in the eighth that made it 3-1 - and Cristian Guzman added a run-scoring triple to back another dominant outing by Hernandez (3-1).

He did not allow an extra-base hit while outpitching Tom Gorzelanny (0-3) and continued to put aside last year's misery, when he was 9-12 with a 5.44 ERA for the Mets and Nationals. He left after Ryan Theriot led off the eighth with a single.

Tyler Clippard came in and walked Kosuke Fukudome on a 3-2 pitch before Derrek Lee popped out. Marlon Byrd then grounded to second and Aramis Ramirez bounced to first to end the inning.

Matt Capps allowed a two-out single to Geovany Soto in the ninth before striking out pinch-hitter Tyler Colvin for his major league leading ninth save in as many chances. That snapped the Cubs' four-game win streak.

Reds 6, Astros 2

HOUSTON (AP) - Aaron Harang pitched six solid innings and Ryan Hanigan drove in three runs for Cincinnati.

The win breaks a five-game road skid for the Reds and halts Houston's winning streak at three.

It's the first win of the season for Harang (1-3), who allowed a season-low two runs. Houston scored in the first inning, before he settled down after his previous two starts where he allowed a combined 14 earned runs.

Hanigan, who went 2 for 3, drove in both runs in the second inning and added an RBI in the sixth.

Harang allowed eight hits with a walk and six strikeouts in six innings. Daniel Ray Herrera pitched a perfect seventh before Nick Masset did the same in the eighth and Francisco Cordero finished it off with a scoreless ninth.

Bud Norris (1-2) gave up six hits and five runs with four walks while striking out six in five innings.

Pirates 7, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Ryan Doumit hit a grand slam and Ronny Cedeno had a solo homer in a five-run ninth inning to Pittsburgh snap a 22-game losing streak in Milwaukee.

Cedeno crushed the second pitch from Trevor Hoffman (1-2) over the wall in left to tie the game. After Andrew McCutchen struck out, Andy Laroche singled for the fourth time and Lastings Milledge doubled. Garrett Jones was walked intentionally before Doumit hit his second career grand slam.

Home runs have been Hoffman's downfall in all three blown saves. He's now given up five with a win on the line. His ERA skied from 9.00 to 13.50.

Prince Fielder greeted reliever Javier Lopez with a homer to deep center in the bottom of the eighth to give the Brewers a 3-2 lead.

Brendan Donnelly (2-0) picked up the win when he relieved Lopez with runners at first and second and two outs. Donnelly retired pinch-hitter Jody Gerut to end the threat.

The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak for Pittsburgh.

Cardinals 5, Braves 4

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Chris Carpenter won on his 35th birthday and Yadier Molina had the go-ahead hit for the second straight game for St. Louis.

Atlanta has totaled 13 runs during a seven-game losing streak, the franchise's worst since a 10-game skid in June 2006. The Braves coughed up an early lead for the second straight game, 2-0 after three innings Tuesday and 3-0 after five on Monday.

Derek Lowe (3-2) retired the first 10 batters before Ryan Ludwick homered and was chased in a four-run sixth that put St. Louis ahead 5-2.

Carpenter (3-0) allowed two runs and three hits in six innings, beating the Braves for the first time since 2006 and raising his career mark against them to 3-2. Lowe had a run-scoring single in the second.

Molina's two-run single put the Cardinals ahead 4-2 and knocked out Lowe.

Ludwick hit his fourth homer in the fourth and added an RBI double in the sixth. He's 8 for 13 with three homers and eight RBIs against Lowe.

Rockies 12, Diamondbacks 1

DENVER (AP) - Ubaldo Jimenez extended his scoreless streak to 22 1-3 innings with six shutout innings for Colorado.

Jimenez's streak is the longest in franchise history by a starter. The previous record was 20 set by Denny Neagle in 2002 and matched by Franklin Morales in 2007. He has not allowed a run in his last three outings, starting with his no-hitter against Atlanta on April 17, the first in club history.

Carlos Gonzalez had three hits and a career-high five RBIs and Troy Tulowitzki also had three hits and scored three runs for the Rockies.

Jimenez (5-0) struck out six, walked two and allowed two hits in six innings. His ERA for the season is 0.79.

The Rockies set a season high in runs and hits and every starter had a hit, including Jimenez.

Gonzalez led the early offensive barrage that chased Edwin Jackson (1-2) in the third inning. Gonzalez had a two-run double in the first and a two-run triple in the second to give Colorado a 7-0 lead.

Giants 6, Phillies 2

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Aubrey Huff and Matt Downs hit solo home runs in the second inning and No. 5 starter Todd Wellemeyer finally won for San Francisco.

The loss knocked the Phillies out of first place in the NL East and they are a half-game behind New York Mets, out of at least a share of the division lead for the first time this season with their second straight series loss.

Edgar Renteria and Pablo Sandoval hit consecutive RBI singles in both the fifth and seventh innings, and Renteria finished with three hits. Huff's homer was his first fences-clearing clout of the year after an inside-the-park homer here against the Pirates on April 14.

Wellemeyer (1-3) won for the first time since July 2. He was a non-roster invitee to spring training who earned a job in the rotation with a strong showing in Arizona.

He allowed two runs and three hits in seven-plus sharp innings, struck out four and walked three.

Jamie Moyer (2-2) lost for only the seventh time in his last 32 road starts.
