Veteran state Sen. Randolph Townsend has been appointed to the Nevada Gaming Commission.
Gov. Jim Gibbons' staff confirmed the appointment Wed-nesday, saying it would take effect as soon as Townsend resigns his Senate seat. He had not done so Wednesday.
Townsend, a Republican, is termed out in November after 28 years representing southern Washoe County and Incline Village. The district also reaches into the north end of Carson City.
The commission consists of five appointed members who act on recommendations from the Gaming Control Board and is the final authority on licensing issues. The commission also develops regulations to enforce state gaming laws. Members are paid $40,000 a year.
