TWIN FALLS, ID. - Alissa Rampa and Ashley Hall delivered key two-run hits to spark Western Nevada College's softball team to a 6-5 win over 13th-ranked College of Southern Idaho in the second game of their Scenic West doubleheader Friday afternoon.

CSI won the opener, 8-0, on the strength of a 1-hitter by Generra Nielson.

Western Improved to 6-36 in SWAC play. The teams will conclude their four-game series today at 11 a.m. with a doubleheader.

"This is real positive," WNC coach Leah Wentworth said. "It's a big win. I feel like we're peaking a little bit. It should seal the deal (playoffs)."

WNC scored all of its runs in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Wildcats scored twice in the fourth on singles by Hall, Jennifer Watkins, Alex Arciniega and Rampa, the latter scoring two runs.

WNC took a 6-3 lead with four more runs in the fifth. Hall had the key blow with a two-run double and Watkins had a run-scoring hit. An error on a pickoff throw accounted for a run.

CSI scored one in the sixth to make it 6-4. In the seventh, CSI got a solo homer to close the gap to 6-5. Watkins got the second out and then yielded a hit. Arciniega made a diving stop of a shot between first and second to end the game.

Watkins relieved Elisa Dawson in the circle after Dawson was hit by a pitch in the elbow, according to Wentworth. Watkins allowed four runs and eight hits in five innings of relief work. She didn't walk or strike out a batter.
