LAS VEGAS (AP) - A statewide poll released Saturday shows Nevadans by a wide margin support raising gambling and mining taxes to avoid cuts to state programs and public employee layoffs.
The poll, conducted for the Las Vegas Review-Journal and KLAS-TV, found that a mining tax increase was supported by 59 percent of respondents and opposed by 31 percent, with 10 percent undecided.
A gambling tax increase was favored by 59 percent and opposed by 35 percent, with
6 percent undecided.
The poll found just 14 percent of those surveyed support a personal income tax.
The telephone survey of 625 registered voters was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
