(AP) - A Nevada judicial ethics panel says a sitting judge can't host a "meet and greet" at his home for a fellow judge seeking re-election.
The opinion issued Monday says such a gathering would run afoul of judicial canons that prohibit a judge from endorsing candidates for public office.
It added that hosting a campaign event at a judge's home could be perceived as pressuring those who attend to support or contribute funds for the judge seeking election.
Judges, however, are allowed to attend gatherings sponsored by a political group or a candidate for public office.
The Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics and Election Practices does not identify judges seeking opinions.
