Home burns on Curry Street

A fire this afternoon destroyed a barn, travel trailer and most of a small home at the corner of Curry and Seventh Street this afternoon.

The occupants of the home, travel trailer and four dogs - including one who trapped in the trailer during the inferno - escaped without injury.

The cause is under investigation, but it appears the blaze started outside between the rear of the home and barn.

The fire was further complicated by a gas meter leak, said Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.

"It was blowing out gas and it ignited obviously and there was a bunch of debris piled up against that gas meter that we had to peel away. Once that ignited it became an instant source of fire," said Giomi.

Homes in the surrounding area were evacuated as fire crews worked to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading to an office building that abuts the property.

The cause is under investigation.
