130 YEARS AGO

Indians on the Warpath: On Thursday night two Washoe bucks got into an altercation at one of the campoodles south of town. One was forcefully slashed across the chest with a carving knife after flirting with another man's wife. When an Appeal reporter asked a knowledgeable Washoe the details of the case, the noble red man replied: "This is no white man's business; what for you want to know so much?"

100 YEARS AGO

About the only news received from the Philippines is the weekly death list. It shows the job of pacifying the Filipinos requires money and life. The last victim is Lieutenant Spurgeon, who died in Manila last week.

70 YEARS AGO

Billy Beverly Saltzer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Saltzer of 414 W. Telegraph Street, entertained 25 of his little friends by the pool Wednesday. Those in attendance were: Duane Berning, Billy Bozskiweicz, Maraceline Chartz, May Eva Christensen, Gerry Dondero, Marjorie Eagan, Larry Jeppson, Moss Helen Little, Duayne Lyman, Bobby Lyman, Patricia Norton, Duane Peters, Leale Peters, Jr., Elenor Pohl, Marilyn Pruett, Daniel Priest, Jean Sanford, Buddy Duncan, Donald Warren, Charlotte Young, and Gertrude Felesina.

50 YEARS AGO

Too much rain too quickly brought mud and debris down Kings Canyon. The flood caused two trailer houses to be pushed against each other and the road to be washed out in a number of places.

20 YEARS AGO

City offices are now open at lunchtime to help better serve the public.

10 YEARS AGO

The Nevada State Library and Archives will receive some $5,000 in grants to buy acid-free storage tubes and mylar sheets to help better store the collections of maps and documents from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
