Learn about lavender

Mike Campie, local lavender grower and owner of Campies Lavender Patch, will talk about the different varieties of lavender and be giving out growing tips during at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 7 at Greenhouse Garden Center, 2450 S. Curry St., Carson City.

Campie will also talk about the best lavenders for essential oil and how lavender can be used in cooking and other products. The session is free and no reservations are necessary.

Greenhouse Garden Center will host its seven annual Art in the Garden Festival 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 14. The event features art, music and more set amidst the gardens and of the center.

Learn how to preserve your bounty

Full Circle Compost will host a workshop, How to Can & Preserve Fresh Produce from Your Garden at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 14.

The growers workshop includes information on how to preserve produce from the garden, store or farmers market; sharing recipes; sharing prepared produce; do's and don'ts of canning, storage, shelf vs freezing.

The class will can using a recipe from Farmer Craig Witt's personal favorites.
