Tea party sprung up from genuine discontent

In response to Mr. Frank Johnston's letter: The Tea Party movement was not started and funded by insurance interests. I was at the first Tea Party gathering in front of the Capitol building on tax day 2009. No insurance company had brought us there. Anger at the irresponsible government approach to taxes and spending brought us there.

Mr. Johnston, Jesus never expressed a wish that government would take money from some and give it to others. The pilgrims realized that they had to work together to survive. The pilgrims did not set up a government to take money from some and give it to others. The founders placed nothing in the Constitution instructing the feds to take from some and give to others.

It took the 16th Amendment to even provide for the income tax. The man who is best known for taking from some to give to others is Karl Marx. Americans are taxed enough already. We don't need European levels of taxation to bring us to European levels of poverty.

Tune in to Glenn Beck to get the facts

Cap and trade is dead. I wish we had public option in the health plan, but we will get it someday. These are statements made by Reid.

Remember Pelosi saying to pass the health bill and we will find out what is in it? Enough said.

Oh, wait. How about cap and trade? Each bill signed by Obama seems to have loopholes and thus saves Congress from all the arguing and fussing with stupid ideas. Hmm ... Guess Reid/Pelosi know about loopholes - new financial regulation law not subject to disclosure. Red flag?

Reid stood before a podium and told the American people Obama's health plan was popular in Nevada. Did he outright lie? How truthful are his political ads when he brags about the thousands of jobs he has brought to Nevada?

Unemployment is 14 percent. Please do yourself, your family, friends and America a favor. You may not like his delivery, antics or message, but you can bet your last dollar what you will hear and see will be facts, facts and more facts.

He has not been contested, nor has his red phone, a direct line to the White House, rung. Please tune in Fox News, Glenn Beck, Monday through Friday at 2 p.m.

You will understand the perilous direction this administration is leading our nation and people.

Charles Lawson has ability, integrity Lyon needs

An open letter to the residents of Stagecoach:

In less than four months we shall go to the polls to select numerous representatives for local, state and national levels.

Lyon County is presently facing all the problems that every other county is facing, but we seem to always lead in the negative aspects.

Our unemployment rate is near the top. Our home repossessions likewise. We are about to invest millions on the jail in Yerington though we all know a new structure belongs in Silver Springs or Stagecoach for centralization.

You may remember when we were the fastest-growing county, population-wise. Just think of how rapidly Fernley and Dayton expanded.

Among the candidates for Lyon County commissioner is Charles Lawson. Lawson has been a community activist since long before I heard of Stagecoach. There isn't a board or committee he hasn't donated his time and effort for.

He has been on the Stagecoach advisory board, the GED board of directors and was actively involved in the creation of the masterplan for Stagecoach.

I am retired, not involved in business, and have no personal agenda in recommending Mr. Lawson for your consideration as commissioner. I believe in his ability, integrity and desire to do what is right for Lyon County.
