A Carson City man arrested in May for using counterfeit $100 bills to buy a bike was jailed Friday after allegedly being found in possession of nearly a dozen more phony bills.
Zachary Forest James, 29, a maintenance man, was booked into the Carson City Jail last week on suspicion of felony possession of a forged instrument and misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence.
According to the arrest report, a deputy stopped James on a traffic violation and recognized him from the May arrest. When the deputy asked to see inside James's wallet, James agreed, and the deputy discovered 11 counterfeit $100 bills.
James allegedly claimed he received the bills when he cashed his paycheck at a Lake Tahoe casino.
A preliminary hearing on the new charges is set for Aug. 23.
On May 1, James was arrested on suspicion of felony fraud after giving two counterfeit $100 bills to a man who was selling a pocket bike online.
On July 21, the felony charge was dismissed and James pleaded guilty to petty larceny. He was sentenced to one day time served and given a suspended sentence of 179 days.
The new arrest violates his probation, according to the arrest report.
