(AP) - A judicial ethics panel says Nevada judges can't display campaign signs on their property supporting another political candidate.
An advisory opinion issued by the Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics and Election Practices says such displays would amount to an impermissible endorsement of candidates for public office that is prohibited by the Code of Judicial Conduct.
The panel on Thursday also said a judge cannot help draft language for an advisory city ballot question on a tax increase, saying the judge could be asked later to rule on the legality of the language.
A third opinion noted that while a judge can conduct settlement conferences or mediation when asked by another judge, they but cannot take cases from private mediation services.
