(AP) - Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons has chosen a Washington state artist to paint his official portrait.

Michele Rushworth of Sammamish was selected Monday from three finalists picked by the state Arts Council, beating out Ned Bittinger of Santa Fe., N.M., and John Ennis of Yardley, Pa.

Gibbons could have chosen any of the 44 artists who initially applied.

Rushworth already has one portrait hanging in the hallway of the Nevada Capitol. She painted the official portrait of former Gov. Kenny Guinn, Gibbons' predecessor.

The painting must be in oil colors and must be done in the same manner, style and size as the portraits of former governors.

Rushworth will be paid $17,500 for the painting and frame, and $2,500 for travel expenses. Work must be completed by Dec. 17.
