A man who was pronounced dead at the scene of a minor traffic accident in Mound House on Wednesday died of injuries related to the crash, an official said Thursday.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said a Washoe County coroner determined that although Thomas Froysa, 66, had evidence of a heart condition, "there were significant enough injuries to attribute his death to the accident."
Froysa of Silver City was eastbound in a 1989 Chevy Caprice about 10 a.m. when he clipped an eastbound Audi sedan. The driver of the Audi was unhurt and damage to his vehicle was minimal.
The impact however sent Froysa's Chevy over the curb and a couple hundred feet into a field just east of the NV50 on Highway 50 East.
When emergency crews arrived Froysa was in cardiac arrest, said Allen. Paramedics worked for about a half hour to revive Froysa but were unsuccessful.
Based on the minor impact from the crash, and the fact that Froysa did not appear to have any external injuries, troopers thought his death may have been the result of a preexisting condition.
The autopsy was conducted Thursday morning.
