Marie Rose Larquier Wolf passed quietly from this life Monday, Aug. 16 from complications from a stroke. She lived her life, however, anything but quietly.
Born in 1925 with an indomitable spirit, life was meant to be lived to the fullest. From her youth in southern California, riding and hunting in the orange groves with her father and playing flute in the Los Angeles Junior Philharmonic, then on through her 60s when she floated the west fork of the Carson River and ran twice for mayor of Carson City, then into her 70s staying active in community affairs. Community affairs and politics were a passion from the time she and husband Dutch Wolf moved to Carson in 1954. Beginning with local Republican politics, she progressed to the local planning commission in 1966, the first woman on the commission, and on to the Nevada Day committee from which she received a life membership for her years of service on the committee. She also served on the Regional Transportation Commission and the Carson City Charter Review Committee. Marie and Dutch were the organizers of the 14th Air Force Convention in Reno in 1980 and she completed the work when Dutch passed shortly before the convention. Among the civic groups she was active in over the years were the Landmark Society, Gray Ladies, Garden Club, Blue Coats and the Nevada Fire Safe Council.
Her life as a business woman began in 1954 when she and Dutch owned and operated the Pine Cone Cafe and continued past her participation as one of the founders of Comstock Bank. Marie was active for 50 years in the Republican Party and with the Catholic Church. For her, priest or politician it did not matter, she would gladly engage in a lively discussion. May she rest in peace.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dutch Wolf. She is survived by her three children; Nancy (Jack) Wolf Crump, Jeanine Howe, and Bill (Judy) Wolf; eight grandchildren, Christopher (Wendy) Williams, Marilyn (Chris) Proctor, Aleisha (Curtis) Ivins, Reed (Melinda) Howe, Stephanie (Scott) Hoyt, Dutch (Georgina) Howe, Joseph Crump and Adam Howe.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22 at the St. Theresa chapel. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23 at St. Theresa's with a reception to follow at Glen Eagles.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and understanding of Dr. Paul Katz, the staff at St. Mary's Hospital, Circle of Life Hospice and Right at Home nursing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the New Hope fund at the Carson City Animal Services, 3770 Butti Way. The funds are used to spay, neuter and provide veterinary care for animals at the animal shelter.
