LAS VEGAS (AP) - North Las Vegas plans to ask Nevada state lawmakers for a bigger piece of the state tax pie.
The City Council on Wednesday approved asking the Legislature to consider revising the state tax distribution formula so North Las Vegas would get more money.
The city, like other municipalities, has been struggling with decreased revenues, cutbacks and layoffs.
Mayor Shari Buck noted the city has asked for the same thing before, without success. She says that's why it has to keep trying.
The resolution seeks a study of the distribution formula for funds from cigarette, liquor and government services taxes and state Department of Motor Vehicle registrations.
The city also asks to add the North Las Vegas Library District as a separate distribution formula recipient.
