Howard Wendell Kearney passed away peacefully on Aug. 19, 2010, in Carson
City. He was born Oct. 19, 1918, in Lucas, Kan., to Earl A. and Effie
Herndon Kearney,
During the depression, Howard served in the Civilian Conservation Corps,
under the Roosevelt New Deal Program, building roads and bridges in Arkansas
and Idaho. Howard served in the U.S. Army in World War II European, African
and Mid-Eastern theaters 1943-1945. He married Alice Ruth Feddersen on Jan.
29, 1947. and worked as a carpenter and farmer.
Alice preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 2007. He is survived by four
children: Marilyn (Ken) Brinnick, Marla (Gary) Johnson, Carol Olsen and
Dennis (Susan) Kearney; and was preceded in death by son Paul Kearney and
son-in-law, Jim Olsen. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Howard enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage, and getting to know his friends
at Sierra Place in Carson City, where he lived the last few months. He will
be greatly missed.
Visitation for Howard will be 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at St. Paul¹s
United Church of Christ in Wheatland, Iowa. Funeral services will follow at
11 am.
Walton¹s Chapel of the Valley funeral home is in charge of final
arrangements.
