Cow County Ball fundraiser on Saturday

The Cow County Ball is 6-10 p.m. Saturday at the Corley Ranch, 859 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Dance music by Rick Hays and American Steel, chuck wagon grub by the Gourmet Cowboy, silent auction, raffle and hosted bar. Cost is $50 per person, $60 at door, $375 for table of 8 and kids under 15 eat free.

Proceeds benefit Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans and the Domestic Violence Victim's Assistance Project. VARN is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. VARN and DVVAP provide free civil legal services to low-income people and victims of domestic violence living in rural Nevada.

WNC Douglas student art show and reception

MINDEN - A potpourri of student and instructor art will be on display at Western Nevada College Douglas campus to kick off the new academic year. The exhibit will be on display 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, through Aug. 27 at Bently Hall, 1680 Bently Parkway South, Minden.

The public is invited to meet the artists and enjoy refreshments at a free reception, 5-7 p.m. Friday.

The exhibit will feature works by students who were in spring fine arts courses, and includes mediums such as watercolor, oil, fibers and photography. Art instructors Janice Shedd and Darlene Tyrrell anticipate a show that spans a variety of subjects to create a diverse collection of student perspectives.

A number of art classes will be offered this fall semester, which begins Monday, Aug. 30. They include Drawing, Watercolor, Digital Photography, and Art History. Information: WNC Douglas, 445-2413.

Swing dance classes begin in September

High Sierra Swing Dance Club and Brewery Arts Center present a six-week series of dance lessons on Wednesdays starting Sept. 8 at the BAC Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City.

West Coast swing beginners and those with less than six months' dance experience, 6-7:30 p.m.; WCS intermediate, 7:30-9 p.m. No partner is necessary. Cost is $51.50 for one class and $91.50 for two classes, with a $5 discount for BAC members.
