Donations to the Kenny Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship Fund are continuing to grow, adding more than $20,000 in just the past two weeks.

A spokesman for the Nevada Treasurer's office said as of Tuesday, 281 individuals and groups had donated $75,288.

Former First Lady Dema Guinn asked people to honor the memory of the popular governor by donating to help support the scholarship he created instead of sending flowers or other remembrances.

Guinn created the Millennium Scholarship in 2000 to provide every Nevada high school graduate with a B average or better with up to $10,000 to attend one of Nevada's colleges or universities. It has helped thousands of graduates access higher education.

He died July 22 after he fell from the roof of his Las Vegas home while cleaning leaves from the roof.

Treasurer's spokesman Steve George said contributions to the fund may be tax deductible. He said those wishing to contribute can do so at any Wells Fargo bank branch by stating they want to donate to the Kenny Guinn Memorial Millennium Scholarship Fund and providing the account number 1710741958.
