Two Carson attorneys named 'Best Lawyers'

The Best Lawyers in America 2011 named two Carson City attorneys in its newest edition, Kaempfer Crowell announced last week.

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, a partner at the firm who specializes in energy and government relations law, and Steven Tackes, also a partner who specializes in energy law, were named to the list.

Six other attorneys in the practice's Las Vegas office were also named.


Long-time Carson physical therapy business relocates

Sports Therapy & Rehabilitation opened its new location on the corner of 303 Fleischman Way on Friday.

Owner LuAnn Tucker said the new 3,400-square-foot office will continue to offer physical therapy with new features such as pilates, exercise and sports training programs. It also has a fitness center.

Her former business was at 501 N. Minnesota St., for 15 years. She's been in business since 1990.


NNDA to celebrate new businesses in the region

The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host the "Bubbles, BBQ & Business Recognition Dinner" from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 29.

The event, which will take place at the Governor's Mansion, 606 Mountain St., will welcome seven new and two expanded businesses in the region.

The NNDA said they have created 288 new jobs. The new businesses include Bonnie Plants in Silver Springs; Buffalo Wire Works in Sparks; Fulcrum Sierra Bio Fuels in McCarran; Northwest Territorial Mint in Dayton; RiteMade Paper Converters in Reno; Saginaw Control and Engineering in McCarran; and Sutter Equipment Company in Mound House. The expanded businesses are Chromalloy Nevada in Carson City and ConAgra Foods, Inc., in Fallon.

Nonprofit to host institute on social justice

Community Chest, Inc., will host the first annual Statewide Rural and Urban Nevada Social Justice Institute on Sept. 17. starting at 9 a.m.

The event, which will feature three speakers who will touch on "the mechanisms of social change," will take place at the Joe Crowley Student Union ballroom at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Speakers will include Nevada Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley, Jan Gilbert, the Northern Nevada coordinator for the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada, and Christy McGill, the executive director of the Healthy Communities Coalition.

Tickets can be purchased at www.communitychestnevada.net. For students the price is $10 and for all others it is $50. Discounts are available for groups of five or ten.
