ELKO (AP) - Gold production has resumed at a Northern Nevada mine where two miners died earlier this month.

But Barrick Gold Corp. officials say a shaft at the underground Meikle Mine north of Carlin where the fatal accident occurred remains closed.

Barrick shut down the mine after the accident in the ventilation shaft on Aug. 12 killed Daniel Noel and Ethan Schorr, both of Spring Creek.

The accident remains under investigation by federal regulators.

Barrick officials say miners began returning to work at Meikle last week. Meikle has roughly 640 employees.

The accident occurred when a vertical pipe broke from a wall and struck a cage that was lowering the two miners into the shaft.
