LOVELOCK - Running back Kyle Onstott scored twice on the ground and Kage Walker connected three times with Dusty Smith to lead Dayton to a 36-32 win in the season-opener for both schools Friday night.

"Offensively, we moved the ball really well," coach Rick Walker said. "Kyle ran really well and Kage threw it well."

Walker was 12-of-20 for 176 yards and four touchdowns unofficially.

Onstott carried more than 20 times for more than 200 yards.

Walker and the Dust Devils be spending a lot of time this week working on special teams and defense which kept Lovelock in the game, as the Mustangs returned three kickoffs for scores.

"They blocked really well, we just didn't tackle," Walker said.

Walker said penalties on defense and consistency are areas the Dust Devils will work on.

"We struggled and shot ourselves with the foot with penalties."

Dayton, 1-0, will have to be sharp before traveling to Truckee to take on the defending state champion Wolverines at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 4.

CARSON'S JV LOSES

The Senators had plenty of opportunities to win this one, but came up short, 28-27, to Del Campo Friday night.

Carson trailed 28-21 and scored to make it 28-27 but failed on the go-ahead two-point conversion. A potential game-winning field goal was blocked by Del Campo in the final minute.

Matt Nolan threw two TD passes for Carson.
