Nobody Asked Us, But ... Parallel parking now a draw to downtown

OK. We see the powers-that-be still are wanting a two lane street from John to Stewart on the main drag, with parallel parking as well. Oh yeah, we want to see people streaming into downtown Carson, held up by someone trying to parallel park, while a line of cars behind them honks to get them going. And you think this will attract us? Maybe a quaint downtown with walking areas and diagonal parking would be a good idea, but parallel parking would deter people from heading that way instead of helping the businesses that need the customers. Rethink this bottleneck in the making.

There are things to make you laugh, Sandy and Wayne Ritz sent this to us off the Internet: "An instructor was teaching a Lamaze class, telling the women to breathe properly, and the men to give their partners assurance during this stage of pregnancy. She said, 'Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you; walking is especially beneficial. Just stay on a soft surface, like grass or a path. And gentlemen, you're in this together, so it wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her.' The room was quiet, as a man raised his hand. 'Yes?' asked the teacher. 'I was just wondering. Is it all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?'" And now we know how the world got single mothers.

Shirley (who used to work at ESD) and her husband, Bob (who captained the MS Dixie), have been going through some medical issues lately, and there will be an open house to help with their medical expenses from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Grandma Hattie's. There will be fair trade items from Ghana (jewelry, clothes), Avon, Mary Kay, Party Lite candles, to name just a few of the goodies. Come by, help out, and get some lovely things. They are great people.

It was great to see Linda and Tim Morsani, up for a visit from Arizona (it's cooler up here). A special thanks to the Galhaut family at ZBistro for being so nice. Also to Doug and Glen Coleman of Coleman Electric for their excellent service putting in a new gas generator for M. And to Charlie Abowd at Adele's for his thoughtfulness. Hope your leg feels better, Charlie.

Barbara Badger found this on the Internet: "My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping channels. She asked, 'What's on TV?' 'Dust.' And that's when the fight started..." "I asked my wife, 'Where do you want to go for our anniversary?' It warmed my heart to see her face melt in sweet appreciation. 'Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!' she said. So I suggested, 'How about the kitchen?' And that's when the fight started..."

And in keeping with a happy theme, Mike Nunes sent in the following from the Internet: "An elderly woman walked into the local church and asked the usher to let her sit in the front row. 'You really don't want to do that,' said the usher. 'Why not?' asked the woman. 'The pastor is really boring.' 'Do you know who I am?' she asked. 'No,' he said. 'I'm the pastor's mother.' 'Do you know who I am?' the usher asked. 'No,' she said. 'Good,' he answered."
