Short agenda includes indoor recreation survey

Thursday's Carson City Board of Supervisor's meeting could very well end up being the shortest in history - there are only three items on the action agenda.

The Parks and Recreation staff will ask supervisors to accept results of a survey to determine the current and future indoor recreation needs of Carson City residents.

Baseball and softball cages made a strong showing amongst the activities people would be willing to pay for with 39.2 percent support. Others in the top four were performing arts at 36.7 percent, aquatic fitness at 36.7 percent and a walking/running track at 36.3 percent.

"Teenagers were selected as the highest prioritized age group for new programs and activities," the report to the board states. "This is not a surprise to staff since the shortage of recreational facilities has prevented the Parks and Recreation department from offering many teen programs."

The report also addresses a new recreation center.

"While staff feels that additional gym space is one of our most critical needs, the survey indicates that a comprehensive recreation center would be a valuable facility to provide the recreational needs and desires of our community," the report states.

"This is consistent with the results of the '2005 Public Opinion Survey' that was conducted as part of the 'Parks and Recreation Master Plan'," the report says.

Other items on Thursday's agenda are:

• A report on the condition of each fund in the city treasury.

• A review of the Carson City Operations Scorecard.
