Man goes to prison on second felony DUI charge

A Carson City man was sentenced to three years in prison for felony drunken driving after he was found asleep at the wheel of his car at an intersection.

Paul Delbert Simpson, 29, was released from prison in 2003 after serving a sentence for third-offense drunken driving.

In July, Simpson was found passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle while it was running and in drive at a stop sign at Overland Loop and South Carson Street at 10:45 a.m. His blood alcohol content was .322.

Carson City District Court Judge Jim Wilson sentenced Simpson to three to 10 years in prison, a year longer than the two to 10 years suggested by Parole and Probation.

Also in court this week:

• Steven Michael Lehrbaum, 29, pleaded guilty to felony third-offense driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A trial date has been set for Dec. 28 on a charge of possession of

heroin.

• Kevin Lea Nunez was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of 18 to 48 months and ordered to attend drug court on a felony charge of attempting to pay goods or services under false pretenses.

• A trial date was set for Jan. 5 for Kristi Lyn Reed, 34, charged with battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.

• Derek Paul Kalaman, 28, 12-60 months suspended probation not to exceed 5 years, charge of attempted battery with a deadly weapon.

• Chad Russell Hunter, 40, was sentenced to prison for 12-48 months on domestic battery by strangulation.

• James Argus Summers, 40, had his probation revoked and was sentenced to 12-48 months in prison on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm.

• Daniel Wayne Ryan, 47, was sentenced to two concurrent terms of 20 to 50 months in prison on charges of attempted auto burglary and grand larceny of a motor vehicle.
