The Silver State Newspaper publishes the following letter from Big Meadows: The farmers of Big Meadows, not receiving any encouragement from the Central Pacific Railroad Company in the matter of reducing rates to transport grain have raised eight teams to take the product to Winnemucca with the return product being flour.
100 YEARS AGO
Some weeks ago the Brunswick Smelter people purchased the old mill from the Sharon people. The work of cleanup then began. From under the old retort room almost one thousand pounds of quicksilver and amalgam have been recovered. It is safe to say the cleanup will be paid for by the showing from sluce boxes after the entire plant is wrecked.
70 YEARS AGO
The Nevada Historical Society will get a new building in Reno. The new building will be in Evans Park. The Nevada Historical Society was organized in 1904 for the purpose of collecting and preserving relics.
50 YEARS AGO
Vandals heaved a rock through a window of a home at 1126 W. Fifth St, scattering glass over the bed where a 2-year-old boy had been sleeping.
20 YEARS AGO
The Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board will hold its first meeting.
10 YEARS AGO
The Vera Cruz, a 160-foot long schooner that was built in Mound House, is trucked to San Diego Mission bay for the first time. The ship weighed 55 tons and took five years to build.
