CBKB TOP 25: UConn rolls to easy win

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Kemba Walker had 24 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists for his first career triple-double, leading No. 7 Connecticut to a 94-61 victory over Maryland-Baltimore County on Friday night.

The junior guard also became the 45th Connecticut player to score 1,000 career points, reaching the milestone in his 77th game. The victory was coach Jim Calhoun's 830th, moving him into a tie with former Mount St. Mary's coach Jim Phelan for sixth place on the career list.

Freshman Jeremy Lamb added 13 points for the Huskies (7-0), Alex Oriakhi, Niels Giffey and Roscoe Smith each had 11 and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel finished with 10. UConn improved to 4-0 against America East teams this season, having already beaten Stony Brook, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Travis King led UMBC (0-7) with 14 points, and Chris De La Rosa added 13. No. 5 Kansas St. 63, Washington St. 58

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Rodney McGruder scored 15 points, hitting two key 3-pointers midway through second half, Curtis Kelly also had 15 and Kansas State barely made up for an off night from star Jacob Pullen star to beat Washington State in the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series.

Pullen rarely got open looks and when he did his shot was off. Pullen made just 2 of 11 shots and finished with eight points, only the second time in 44 games he's failed to score in double figures dating to his sophomore season. But Pullen calmly hit two free throws with 9.1 seconds left that put the Wildcats (7-1) up by four and clinched the victory that broke a nine-game road losing streak against Pac-10 teams.

Klay Thompson led Washington State (5-1) with 16 points, but was just 5 of 15 from the field.

No. 12 Villanova 71, Saint Joseph's 60

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Antonio Pena had 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds and Corey Stokes scored 17.

Five different players scored for the Wildcats (6-1) during a 13-0 run early in the second half that helped make this one more comfortable. Villanova beat its Big 5 rival for the 11th time in the last 14 games in the series.

The rivalry that dates to 1921 and features schools separated by 6.7 miles has been a lopsided one. Villanova leads 44-24.

The Wildcats shook off a sluggish first half and a poor shooting night to win their first game since losing the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off.

Carl Jones led the Hawks (3-4) with 19 points, and C.J. Aiken blocked seven shots.
