DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Andre Dawkins scored a career-high 28 points in his first start to help top-ranked Duke beat Bradley 83-48 on Wednesday night, moving coach Mike Krzyzewski into sole possession of third place on the all-time wins list.

The sophomore hit eight 3-pointers for the Blue Devils (9-0) in place of star freshman point guard Kyrie Irving, who is out indefinitely with a toe injury on his right foot. Kyle Singler added 17 points as Duke shook off a cold-shooting first half and blew the game open with a flurry of 3s after halftime for its 19th straight win.

It was Krzyzewski's 877th victory, moving him out of a tie with Kentucky's Adolph Rupp and putting him just two behind North Carolina's Dean Smith for second place behind Bobby Knight's 902 wins. The Hall of Famer could tie his former longtime rival at home against Elon on Dec. 20, then pass Smith when the Blue Devils face UNC Greensboro on Dec. 29 in the Greensboro Coliseum.

Walt Lemon Jr. scored 14 points for the Braves (4-5), who have lost five straight.

No. 3 Pittsburgh 70, Delaware St. 42

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh reserve Dante Taylor scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first career double-double.

Taylor played just 15 minutes as coach Jamie Dixon went to his bench early. J.J. Moore, another reserve, scored 10 points. Ashton Gibbs had nine points as 11 players scored for the Panthers, who used their size to outrebound the Hornets 41-18.

Pitt (10-0) has won 10 consecutive games to start the season for the seventh time in the past eight seasons. The Panthers have won 45 of their past 46 home games and are 82-1 against non-conference opponents at Petersen Events Center.

Marques Oliver had 11 points for Delaware State (4-4), which had won its last two games.

No. 6 Connecticut 78, Fairleigh Dickinson 54

STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Kemba Walker, who came in leading the nation in scoring at over 29 points a game, had 21 points to lead four UConn players in double figures.

Jeremy Lamb had 12 points while fellow freshmen Roscoe Smith and Shabazz Napier had 10 points each. Smith had 10 rebounds and Napier added five assists.

The Huskies took 32 3-point shots and made just 10.

Kamil Svrdlik led Fairleigh Dickinson (3-4) with 21 points and Mike Scott added 14.

The Huskies, who beat top 10 teams Michigan State and Kentucky, have struggled at times against lesser opponents like Vermont and New Hampshire, but had no trouble with the Knights.

No. 12 Villanova 65, Penn 53

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Senior guard Corey Stokes scored a career-high 34 points, including seven in a key second-half stretch, for Villanova.

The Wildcats (8-1) were held to a season-low point total but recorded their eighth straight victory over the Quakers. The outcome was in doubt until Villanova went on a 9-2 run midway through the second half to extend a 40-34 lead to 49-36.

Stokes scored seven of those points, including a 3-pointer with 8:40 left to reach 1,000 for his career.

The Quakers (4-4), who saw a two-game winning streak snapped, did not get closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Junior guard Zack Rosen paced Penn with 20 points and five assists.

Stokes shot 11 for 15 from the field, including going 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

No. 14 San Diego St. 77, California 55

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Kawhi Leonard had 20 points and D.J. Gay scored all 14 of his points in the second half to give San Diego State its best start in its 90-year history.

The Aztecs (9-0) surpassed their 1984-85 and 2006-07 teams that opened the season with eight straight wins and gave coach Steve Fisher his best start in 20 full seasons as a head coach.

San Diego State wore down the Golden Bears (5-3) with their athleticism in the second half to win a road game against a Pac-10 school for the first time since December 1982 at Oregon. They had lost 20 straight road games to Pac-10 teams and hadn't beaten any team on the road from one of the six big conferences since knocking off Northwestern in December 1996.

Jorge Gutierrez scored 19 points and Harper Kamp added 18 for the Bears, who had won 22 straight nonconference home games since falling to Utah three years ago.

No. 15 Missouri 85, Vanderbilt 82, OT

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Marcus Denmon made a clinching three-point play off his steal with 5.8 seconds to go for Missouri.

Denmon was 1 for 8 early in the second half, then went 6 for 11 the rest of the way as Missouri improved to 4-0 at home this season.

No. 16 Illinois 74, Oakland 63

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Demetri McCamey scored 29 points to lead Illinois' comeback in a sloppy game whose first seven-plus minutes were played with an undersized women's basketball.

McCamey gave the Illini (9-1) their first lead of the game with less than 15 minutes to play, driving the lane for two on a finger roll and drawing a foul. The basket tied the game at 36 and the free throw put Illinois up by one.

Oakland closed within 45-42 on a layup by Ledrick Eackles with 10:44 to play. But Illinois, and primarily McCamey, quickly widened the gap on the Grizzlies.

He fed Jereme Richmond for a dunk with 7:51 to play for a 54-44 lead, and less than a minute later drew a foul and made both free throws for a 56-45 lead.

McCamey followed that with a decisive 3-pointer and a layup on consecutive possessions to put Illinois up 63-49 with 5:32 to play.

Reggie Hamilton led Oakland (5-4) with 18 points.

No. 17 Kentucky 72, No. 23 Notre Dame 58

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Terrence Jones scored 27 points and Kentucky avoided its first losing streak under coach John Calipari.

Ben Hansbrough led the Fighting Irish (8-1) with 21 points but scored just two in the second half. Notre Dame went without a field goal for over 12 minutes spanning the first and second half, allowing Kentucky to turn an 11-point deficit into a seven-point lead it would never give up.

Brandon Knight added 20 points and five assists for Kentucky, which made 17 of 22 free throws (77 percent), well above its season average of 64 percent.

No. 18 BYU 86, Vermont 58

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Hometown hero Jimmer Fredette scored 26 points to lift BYU.

A senior guard and AP preseason All-America who starred at Glens Falls High School, Fredette made his first three shots and led the Cougars in scoring for the eighth time in their nine victories to open the season.

Noah Hartsock had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Brandon Davies added 12 points for the Cougars (9-0).

Brendan Bald scored 14 points for the Catamounts (6-2), the home team in name only who scored the opening basket but never held another lead.

Fredette's three-point play with 8:23 remaining put the Cougars up by 20 points , but it was his behind-the-back assist to Kyle Collinsworth on the next trip down court that electrified the crowd.

BYU used a 14-4 run to take a 38-25 halftime lead.

After playing 34 minutes Fredette left to an extended standing ovation, capping his return to this city of 14,000 which has embraced his career for the better part of a decade, including a close loss in the 2007 Class A state title game on the same court.

No. 20 UNLV 75, Boise St. 72

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Chace Stanback had 16 points and six rebounds to lead UNLV.

Siva sparked a 16-0 run by Louisville, hitting two 3-pointers and assisting on an inside basket early in the second half. The Cardinals cruised from there as they outscored San Francisco 36-11 in the second half.

Chris Smith added 11 points and Preston Knowles had 10 for Louisville, which committed a season-low five turnovers while forcing 16 to outscore San Francisco 21-0 in points off turnovers.
