A masked gunman made off with thousands of dollars from a Silver Springs casino early Thursday morning.

Lyon County Sheriff's Lt. Bryan Veil said deputies were called out to the Silver Strike Casino on Highway 50 East near the junction at Highway 95 Alternate at 5:51 a.m. on a holdup alarm.

Employees told deputies a man wearing a black ski mask, gray hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and dark gloves entered through the front door about 5:48 a.m.

The man, described as a white male with a "younger voice," immediately confronted an employee working at the cashier's cage and brandished a weapon.

Veil said the suspect tossed a black canvas or leather money satchel to the cashier who then filled it with $11,300.

The suspect then fled out the front doors and disappeared.

Surveillance footage outside the casino suggests the suspect was dropped off by a white four-door sedan of an unknown year and model.

"I do believe our suspect is someone that lives in this area," said Veil.
