Author Michon Mackedon to discuss atomic testing

FALLON - Western Nevada College Emeritus English Professor Michon Mackedon is sharing her passion with the world.

The longtime Fallon resident has just released her first book, "Bombast: Spinning Atoms in the Desert," a discussion about Nevada's history of nuclear testing. Having just completed literary events in several Nevada communities, she is returning home for a free event at the WNC Fallon campus art gallery on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 5:30-6:30 p.m., in Virgil Getto Hall.

Carson City Toyota Scion offering help to community

Carson City Toyota Scion has been a drop off location for Toys for Tots for 30 years. This year if you drop off a new unwrapped toy, you can enter to win a $1,000 Visa card.

Each year General Manager Dana Whaley and General Sales Manager Dan Luken purchase $1,000 worth of bicycles along with Carson City Toyota and Toyota USA adding another $2,000 in toys. Carson City Toyota also will pick up.

Tour the Universe in Dayton

Mike Thomas, regional lecturer and president of the Western Nevada Astronomical Society will present the slideshow program "Tour of the Universe" at 6:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 17 at Dayton Valley Golf Club, 101 Palmer Dr.

This interesting lecture includes many amazing Hubble Space Telescope images and provides explanations of truly astounding celestial objects. This "don't miss" highly recommended special event is free to the public.

Free legal services clinic Wednesday

Nevada Legal Services, Inc., will sponsor a free forms completion legal clinic 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Dec. 15 at their office at 216 No. Pratt Ave., Carson City.

The clinic is for people who need assistance in completing forms and/or are filing without legal representation.

Both stores are participating in the food drive.

Methodist Church presents a Living Nativity

Carson City First United Methodist Church will present its 10th annual Living Nativity from 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Musser and Division streets and the drive-through begins at the corner of King and Division streets.

Visitors are also encouraged to walk the "Path to Bethlehem," which is lighted by more than 800 luminaries.

A voluntary donation of non-perishable food is requested.

Big band sounds

at the Nugget

The Tahoe Dance Band will be playing at the Carson Nugget from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Listen and dance to the music of Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman and more with the 16-piece band playing in the Nugget's Show Lounge.
