The story of desert benevolence to a stranded old couple with a Nevada setting, will be the Old Ranger's true story over the next broadcast of "Death Valley Days." The story was told of the plight of the couple at a stone cabin. Residents of Tonopah rallied to help the couple until the woman was well enough to move on.

50 YEARS AGO

The lower Carson river has increased in temperature to the point where trout can no longer live in the stream, a state fish and game commissioner told the Lions Club. As a result, the stream is being poisoned for rough fish and will soon be stocked with channel catfish and smallmouth bass.

20 YEARS AGO

New Year's Eve revelers will not be able to celebrate this year on Highway 50 at Stateline. The move was because of hostile and violent crowds, injuries and vehicle damages.

With just a week's worth of effort, Hillary Briggerman's English class has collected 27,978 cans of food for FISH.
