Three still sought in forged check ring

Three people still are being sought for questioning in the passing of counterfeit checks in Carson City and Reno.

Carson City Sheriff's Detective Bob Motamenpour said someone has been creating and cashing thousands of dollars in checks using account numbers for Carson City Toyota and Truckee Meadows Community College. The fraudulent checks have been cashed at casinos in Carson City and Reno. The checks began appearing in late September and October ranging in amounts from $900 to $1,800.

Motamenpour said he is looking to speak with Robert Gallegos III, in his early 20s, of Sparks; Edson Waldir Guzman-Chicas, in his early 20s, of Sun Valley; and Samantha Ann Henry, 23, of Gardnerville.

A fourth person, Kelly Elaine Wheeler, 49, of Sparks, has been contacted and is believed to be a victim of identity theft. The suspects used Wheeler's ID to cash some of the checks, said Motamenpour.
