As part of her senior project at Carson High School, Lauren Knorzer is organizing today's Adopt A Pet Day at Carson City Animal Services, 3770 Butti Way.
"They need homes," she said. "They need loving families."
An animal lover in a home with four dogs and a cat, Knorzer focused on pet adoption and training for her senior project.
"I'm really interested in animals," she said. "They're just comforting. When you're in a bad mood, they're there."
The adoption event will run 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with raffle prizes being given throughout the day.
All pets will be spayed and neutered and available at a reduced rate. Dogs will be $50, rather than the usual $90, and the fee for cats will be reduced to $30 from $70.
As they get adopted, pets will also receive a microchip.
Knorzer said there are about 25 dogs available for adoption, ranging from Labrador and pit bull mixes to a Rottweiler and a Shar Pei. She said there are about 20 cats and several kittens available as well.
"They're all really cute," she said. "I want them all."
Sponsors for the adoption day are Benson's Feed, S&W Feed, Sierra Le Bone and Lone Mountain Veterinary Clinic.
