Gene Munnings of Evergreen Gene's has a great deal for anyone in need of a Christmas tree. They're free.
A surplus of more than a dozen 5- to 7-foot tall Douglas fir trees left over from a giveaway at KKOH are sitting in the parking lot of Munnings' nursery on North Carson Street, and the clock is ticking.
"I don't want them to go to waste and it's getting close to Christmas," he said.
Munnings said the trees were part of a radio giveaway in which callers won one, but the majority of the winners never arrived to pick up their prize.
Now, the trees, which Munnings donated for the radio show and drove back himself from a farm in Oregon, are just sitting in the lot. Munnings said he didn't have the heart to try to sell them, and none of the Carson City nonprofits wanted them.
"I know there are a lot of people who don't have a tree yet," he said.
If you want a tree, just visit Munnings shop at 1811 N. Carson St. near Grocery Outlet.
"All they have to do is come in and ask," said Munnings. "We'll even cut them down if they need it."
