Choosing who gets house and senate clerkships at the upcoming legislature is a most unwelcome job. Who would want to neglect friends whom one did not know was running? Many a man lost a desirable position simply because he did not announce his candidacy. Among those running is John M. Hall, for office of Assistant Sergeant at Arms in the Assembly, an old veteran of the Mexican War and Clem Berry, Town Crier, who is hoping for Porter of the Senate and is strong as an ox.

100 YEARS AGO

Mr. Springmeyer, who lost the election for Attorney-General to Cleve Baker by some 65 votes, has decided to contest the election.

70 YEARS AGO

Rev. and Mrs. M. J. "Dad" Hersey of 707 West Musser Street were judged winners of Carson City's first residential Christmas decoration contest sponsored by the Carson City Business Men's Association. The Hersheys were awarded a new electric Toastmaster.

50 YEARS AGO

Nevada and California authorities are on the lookout for two state prison inmates that escaped from custody on Christmas eve or Christmas day. Alfred W. Hodge, a Clark county burglar, escaped from the Spooner Summit honor camp. Francis Hall, 21, made his way from the state prison farm driving a state truck.

20 YEARS AGO

Two people were killed in Nevada traffic accidents over the four-day holiday weekend. Both accidents were in the Las Vegas area.

10 YEARS AGO

For the 42nd year in a row, the Coffee Shop at the Carson Nugget has offered free Christmas dinners.
