Christmas tree recycling offered

City and county governments in the tri-county area are providing Christmas tree recycling.

Carson City

From Jan. 3-7, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on residents' regular collection day or taken to one of the drop-off locations. Trees will be chipped in the spring and given to local residents to use for mulch. No flocked trees are allowed.

Drop boxes will be available at the following locations:

• J.C. Penney parking lot

• North Town Plaza near Bully's

• Carson City Landfill

• Capital Sanitation, 5560 Sheep Drive

• Carson City Corporate Yard on Butti Way, just west of Carson City Public Works

After Jan. 7, residents can take their trees to the Carson City Landfill for recycling.

All decorations, lights, tinsel and bases must be removed from the trees prior to drop-off or pick-up recycling. Flocked trees cannot be recycled.

Douglas County

Douglas County is offering a recycling program Jan. 3-7. Residents should place their tree next to their trash can on their normal pickup day. Residents who do not have trash pickup may put their trees out with trees of neighbors who do.

Drop-off collection sites are:

• Lampe Park, Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville

• Johnson Lane Park, Stephanie Way, Johnson Lane area

• Topaz Ranch Estates Park, Carter Way, TRE area

• Ranchos Aspen Park, Muir Drive, Gardnerville Ranchos area

• Fairgrounds, Pinenut Road, Gardnerville

• Zephyr Cove Park, Warrior Way, Zephyr Cove

Remove tinsel, lights, nails and stands from trees. Flocked trees cannot be accepted.

Central Lyon County

Residents can drop trees off through Jan. 9 at two drop-off sites:

• Dayton Events Center off of Schaad Road

• Lyon County Baseball Field, near the library, at Topaz Street and Silver Stage Place, Silver Springs

The drop-off sites will be marked with a sign. Trees need to be free of ornaments, lights, tinsel and stands with nails. Only natural trees will be accepted.

The trees will be chipped to provide mulch for county parks.
