Dance is a great way to work off the holiday pounds while having fun and learning new skills. An evening of dancing can equal a three to four mile jog while strengthening bones, lowering blood pressure, improving cholesterol, and conditioning the cardiovascular system.

And it's more fun than a treadmill.

Dance instructor Larry Ward will present several dance classes beginning in January. Ward has 55-years dance experience.

To register or for more information about the classes, call 461-0474.

Two ballroom dance classes will be offered. Dances to be covered are Cha-Cha, Waltz, Fox Trot, Salsa, East Coast Swing, Texas Two Step, and American Tango.

Ballroom Dance for adults and teens is 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays Jan 5-April 13 at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St. Registration will be accepted through the Jan. 12 class. Cost is $8 adults, $5 teens, per person per class.

Ballroom Dance for teens meets 5:30 p.m. Sundays from Jan. 9-April 10 at Genoa Town Hall, 2289 Main St., Genoa. Registrations accepted through the second class on Jan. 16. Cost is $5 per person per class.

Ward and George & Nellie Dudoit will teach a 13-week course on square dance and line/country dance at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 4-March 29 at Genoa Town Hall. The class is sponsored by the Genoa Town Twirlers.

Ward is a professional square dance caller and the subject of a recently released documentary on square dancing "Larry Ward - The Square Dance Caller."

The Dudoits are professional line and country dance callers.

Registrations for the square dance and line/country dance classes will be accepted through Jan. 18.

Cost is $6, per person per class. Couples and singles welcome.
