A 26-year-old woman was killed this morning on Highway 50 East in Dayton when she lost control on the icy roads and spun into oncoming traffic.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen said Wendy Ann Geddie was westbound in a silver 2006 Dodge Neon near Occidental Drive just before 9 a.m. when her vehicle spun into the eastbound lanes and was struck by a gray 2004 Hummer H2 driven by Bonnie Raymond, 59, of Carson City.
Geddie was pronounced dead at the scene, said Allen.
Raymond was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with minor injuries.
Allen said Getddie's driver's license listed a Las Vegas address, but she was staying with family in Silver Springs.
"As a reminder to all motorists, when roadway surfaces are wet, icy or snow covered, please adjust your driving," said Allen. "People need to really slow it down when roads are slippery. We had 49 crashes between noon and midnight last night in Northern Nevada."
The accident blocked one lane in each direction for several hours.
Allen said this is the third year in a row there has been a fatal accident on Dec. 30 in the area. He said for five straight years there has not been a fatal accident on Northern Nevada roads between Jan. 1-7.
