The Carrier's Address: Mr. Cyrus Adams, the spry and poetical carrier of the Appeal, will deliver his New Year address tomorrow to patrons of the paper. On the first page is an original greeting to the New Year, coupled with sundry observations regarding the unfortunate demise of 1880 along with an ode entitled "The Capture of Pegasus."

100 YEARS AGO

District Attorney Noel has rendered an opinion in Storey County that it is unlawful to operate slot machines. He has advised the sheriff of that fact. Under Section 3 of the Anti-Gambling Act it is a criminal act for any person to keep, exhibit, or have in his possession any cards, tables, checks, wheels, slot machines, etc. - Enterprise.

70 YEARS AGO

Mrs. Mattie J. Blanchard died at her home after a long illness. She is the wife of Jack Blanchard, well known local carpenter and cabinet maker. Prior to moving to Carson the Blanchards were from Las Vegas.

50 YEARS AGO

Sheriff Howard Hoffman today asked that shooting of BB guns and bows and arrows, prevalent because of Christmas - be halted because of dangers involved. There have been a few complaints of windows being shot out by youngsters practicing with Christmas toys.

Actor Jason Robards is dead at 78.
