A Carson City man suspected by federal agents of possessing child pornography was found dead in his Ninth Street apartment Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff's Capt. Ken Sandage said an FBI agent requested that deputies contact the 58-year-old man after he hadn't been heard from since his home was raided by agents and detectives last week.

When there was no answer at the door, officers call a locksmith and entered, finding the suspect dead in his upstairs bedroom, said Sandage.

The man's name was not released by the FBI after the search Thursday, and Sandage declined to release the name pending notification of next of kin.

He said there was no obvious cause of death. An autopsy will be performed later this week.

Last week Carson City detectives and FBI agents with the bureau's Innocent Images International Task Force served a warrant on the townhouse at 674 Ninth St. #A. Several hours later officers carried out computer equipment and bags. The man was not home at the time.

FBI Special Agent Joseph Dickey declined to reveal the details of the warrant. The file was sealed in federal court in Reno.
