Continued from Saturday: Sweet Scented Companions. I emerged from the stage when I saw what appeared to be four mousers emerging from the hotel de stage horse. The driver commented: "See those pretty kittens?" I thought they were too as the driver picked up one of the spotted little darlings. It was at that point that the perfume gave them dead away ... Word has reached us of the death of two Basque sheepherders in the desert near Donnelly Mountain in the north part of Humboldt canyon. Three thousand sheep were also found dead from the bitter cold.
70 YEARS AGO
The tale of Orson Hyde's curse is retold in a story from "Tales of the Pioneers" in the Inyo Register. Hyde, a former judge in western Utah (Nevada) in the 1850s was recalled to Salt Lake City. When he tried to regain his property after leaving Carson Country and Washoe Valley, he cursed the descendants of the area. There is no record of the Hyde ever being repaid.

County commissioners approve the map of "Brunswick Acres" today for Harley Carter near New Empire. Carter, this time as mayor, turned in a complaint against unlicensed trailer parks, which sparked a long debate.
