Walter C. Blattel, 98, a longtime Carson Valley resident passed away January 27, 2010, in Reno. Walter was born February 19, 1911, in Ancell, Mo., to Andrew Joseph Blattel and Bertha Anna Felden.
He enjoyed fishing, woodwork, bird watching, puzzles and also volunteering with the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center.
Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Ivis Irene Kirby; his parents; sister Corine Miller; and son-in-law Carl G. Abney. Survivors include daughter Delores Abney of Gardnerville; granddaughter April (Terry) Hughes of Gardnerville; grandson Cort (Teri) Abney of California; great-grandchildren Patrick, Drew, Brit, Colton and Carly; friend Les Bush, nephew Richard Birkman and many longtime family and friends.
Private family services are to be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, CA, or a charity of your choice. Walton's Funerals and Cremations in Gardnerville is in charge of arrangements.
