Crowbar bandit strikes gas station again

The crowbar bandit has struck again, hitting the same gas station he robbed two weeks ago.

The man who robbed the Jackson's Texaco at Rand Avenue and Highway 50 East on Jan. 24 entered again at 3:15 a.m. Friday carrying a crowbar, said Detective Daniel Gonzales.

According to police reports, the man demanded cartons of Marlboro cigarettes from the lone female clerk before he pried open the cash register and took the till.

During his escape he apparently dropped or discarded a couple of cartons of cigarettes near the Feisty Goat on Long Street. Some rolled coins were found along a nearby wall, which police recovered.

Just before 3 a.m. Thursday morning the same man entered the Jackson's Texaco station at Saliman Road and Fifth Street. He greeted a patron playing a slot machine before prying open the register. When the clerk spotted him, he fled on foot with cash and three cartons of Marlboros.

He has not threatened any of the clerks with the crowbar, said Sheriff Ken Furlong.

"We are aggressively, actively working this," Furlong said. "Although he hasn't hurt anyone, the capability is there."

The suspect is described as a white male, 140 to 150 pounds, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8.
