LAS VEGAS (AP) - A North Las Vegas police officer was saved from a bullet by his badge during an exchange of gunfire.
Department officials say the 31-year-old officer suffered only minor injuries. They say he was patrolling an area of North Las Vegas just before 10 p.m. Saturday when he heard shots being fired in an apartment complex.
While investigating, the officer came upon a "suspicious person" who had a gun and opened fire. The officer returned fire and was hit. The person with the gun fled.
Police continued to search for the gunman on Sunday. They say he may also been injured.
The injured police officer's name was not immediately released.
