Model T Ford Club

to meet Thursday

The Silver State Model T Ford Club will meet on Thursday at Grandma Hattie's Restaurant, 2811 So. Carson St. Dinner is at 6 p.m. (order from the menu) and the meeting starts at 7 p.m.

CASA training to be offered in March

CASA of Carson City will start new training of CASA Advocates, from 6-9 p.m. March 1 at the Carson City Juvenile Court.

CASA Advocates serve as guardians for children in state custody through child welfare court cases due to abuse or neglect. Being a CASA advocate requires patience, caring, research, writing and follow-through.

Training, background checks and interviews are required. Training will be once a week for three hours for 10 weeks. For more information call 882-6776 or see www.casaofcc.org.

Benefit for Jack Parker scheduled

Sing for Jack, a benefit event for Jack Parker, a well known Carson City karaoke singer who is undergoing treatment for cancer, takes place from 2-8 p.m., Saturday at Y Not Saloon, 152 E. Long St., Carson City.

Parker, an employee for Granite Construction, is facing mounting out-of-pocket expenses not covered by insurance. Donation to sign up is $10 and sponsorships for singers/comedians are also requested.

Immigration services to host session

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will host a free information session at the downtown Reno Library, 301 S. Center St., 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

The session is part of a larger initiative to help immigrants better understand the naturalization process, including the content of the new naturalization test, and to learn about free educational resources and materials available from the agency.

The public is invited, and immigration staff will be on hand to discuss the naturalization process step-by-step, and provide information about eligibility and residency requirements, application forms, fees, the background security check and processing times.

Participants also will see sample questions from the new test and watch a mock naturalization interview.

Free educational materials will be given out while supplies last.  

Organization changes name to RSEA

The Carson City Retired Teacher's Association has now become the Retired School Employees Association-Carson Unit.

RSEA welcomes anyone who has worked in the field of elementary, secondary and higher education in any capacity to our quarterly meetings. The organization has school employees from throughout the United States and Europe.

RSEA will be gathering at 11:15 a.m. Friday, March 12, for a luncheon at Q's restaurant, South Carson Street and Fairview. Cost of lunch is $8.50.

A presentation will be given on the textile industry in Carson City.

All former school employees are invited to join. Dues are only $10 per year. Dues fund three scholarships a year for people entering the field of education.
