130 YEARS AGO

About eight o'clock yesterday a fateful snow slide happened at Mill's Station in Marlette's Canyon which took the lives of three men. Eight men in the employ of Marlette & Co. were making their way to work. At 10 o'clock last night, rescuers sent word they had found the men's hats, but were still working on finding the men. All hope of finding them alive has been abandoned.

100 YEARS AGO

The State Board of Revenue has met at the governor's office to hear a request by the board of county commissioners to borrow $5,000 to tide the county over in its present financial difficulties. Commissioners will meet soon to fix a new tax rate for the county.

70 YEARS AGO

Authorities are seeking clues to the murder of (a black couple), Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Robinson in Elko. Their bodies were found in their cabin on the Humboldt river. A neighbor had said they heard gunshots about three o'clock Sunday morning. Robinson had been a cab driver and a bellhop in a local casino for 13 years.

50 YEARS AGO

A $25,000 donation may keep wild horses running free thanks to a donation by Bruce Industries.

10 YEARS AGO

Two Carson High Senators and their dates will be able to attend this year's prom thanks to a donation from Soroptimists International.

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
